Aamir Khan is all set to produce a film on the farmers’ plight in Bhopal. The actor has signed on Anusha Rizvi as director and Raghubir Yadav who starred with Khan in Lagaan will play the lead.
“The plot of the movie deals with a reporter’s journey to fight for the plight of farmers in the region. It deals with the issues of farmers’ suicide,” says a source from the sets.
The filming for the project has already begun in Bhopal.
“Large amount of the film is based on Anusha’s life. She was a journalist who had visited the region before she decided to turn director,” adds the source.
Few years back the actor-producer was embroiled in a controversy with the Gujarat government following his comments on the rehabilitation of farmers displaced by the Sardar Sarovar Project.
It is learnt that his new film will raise the issue of the state of farmers and their exploitation.
